THERMOGRAPHY PRINTING

Thermography printing is really a forgotten art. Believe it or not, Thermography dates all the way back to the time of the Pyramids! Thankfully, we’ve modernized since then, but the fundamentals are the same. Thermography (or “Thermo” for short) can be printed in any color and is an affordable addition to any printing project.

WHAT IS THERMOGRAPHY?

Thermography is a specialty service that gives a raised (or embossed) effect to ink that brings texture to your prints.

THERMOGRAPHY PRINTING PROCESS

When a client’s project calls for thermography printing, our first considerations are color and placement. Meaning, What color ink would you like and what portion of your artwork will be “thermo’d”. Once this is settled, we can begin the thermography printing process. Thermography Printing can be broken down into three simple steps. Powder, Shake and Bake.

1. POWDER

As soon as your desired ink has been printed on your desired paper, in your desired design, it is immediately conveyed to a unit that blasts the sheet with a special powder. This all takes place while the ink is still wet. The powder is a blend of plastic resins that bond with the wet ink.

2. SHAKE

Once the sheet has been covered in powder it is further conveyed to a vacuum/vibrator. The sheet is shook and vacuumed to rid the piece of excess powder. Only the powder that bonded with the wet ink remains.

3. BAKE

Now that the excess powder has been shaken and vacuumed away the sheet if further conveyed down to an oven to start cookin’. The heat of the oven melts the resins in the powder that then solidify and permanently bond with the ink and paper. This gives the final piece a raised and textured feel that we all know as thermography!

SIZE

Thermography Printing is great for small to medium sized jobs. The largest size we run via our Thermography Machines is 9″ x 12″. If you need Thermography on something larger please contact us for additional details.

QUANTITY

Thermography Printing can be used for any volume project! There is no minimum or maximum order quantity. However many you need!

QUALITY

Adding Thermography to your project is a great way to give your piece a high-quality look.

PROOFING

There is no real proofing process for Embossing. We will send you a digital representation, but if you need to see a print before we proceed a press check is always an option.

PRICE

Thermography Printing Prices are dependent on the size of the artwork being thermo’d, complexity and quantity. With this being the case Thermo pricing can vary from affordable to expensive.

TURNAROUND

Our thermography printing turnaround is job dependent. Generally, turnaround time for thermography services would not be considered quick.
