If you’ve ever held a license, key card or library card chances are you’ve seen lamination. If you pull out your wallet chances are something in their is laminated! Lamination is an alternative the popular UV Coating that’s been all the rage the past couple years in the printing business. The only difference being, lamination offers far superior protection. In fact, Lamination is the best protection you can offer a printing project.

Lamination works by bonding with your print to create a water, UV and all around fool-proof protection for any printed media.

When ordering laminating services for your printing project it’s important to know the level of protection you will need. Will your print be handled every day? Pulled in and out of a wallet? Will your print need to be protected from bad weather? Maybe waters not an issue, but what about the sun? These are all questions that you should ask yourself. Protection isn’t the only consideration. There is also the question of look and feel!

As we stated above, the type of lamination your project should utilize is dependent upon how it will be used. We offer 4 levels of laminated protection – 1.7, 3, 5 and 10. These numbers represent thickness in “Mils”. This does not stand for Millimeters! A “Mil” is a measurement that equals one-thousandth of an inch, or 0.001 inch.

Now that we have a grasp on the protection level of lamination it’s time to jump into style! The two most common lamination finishes are Matte and Gloss. The names being descriptors of how they look and feel. The Matte Finish is a Flat/Dull toned down option that isn’t so in your face. While the Gloss finish gives you that Shiny/Glossy pop reminiscent of a freshly waxed sports car. Finish isn’t the only option when it comes to lamination. There’s also texture to think about. If you are interested in different textures please contact us about our special order lamination options!
